Requirement of Assistant Fellows, Associate Fellows and Assistant Editor

DIGANTAR, a Jaipur based Voluntary Organization that is striving to create a meaningful difference in the field of education at various levels and in different ways, requires motivated people for the two sub-units The Academic Resource Unit (TARU) and The Resource Support Unit (TRSU) as well as for the bimonthly magazine ‘Shiksha Vimarsh’.

Digantar is registered under the Registration of Societies Act Rajasthan, 1958 and currently runs three schools on the outskirts of Jaipur under the Alternative Education Programme (AEP) and three other projects - one in Phagi Block of Jaipur District and two in Baran District of Rajasthan. Digantar is also involved in developing curriculum, teaching/learning material and running workshops and trainings for professionals working in the field of education in various capacities. Digantar also conducts educational research and publishes an educational magazine known as ‘Shiksha Vimarsh’

The Academic Resource Unit (TARU) undertakes academic and research activities related to elementary education. The engagements of TARU encompass a wide range of activities such as teacher enrichment, training programmes for professionals, research and evaluation studies, teaching learning material development, and pedagogical renewals.

The Resource Support Unit (TRSU) is the central support and administrative unit which carries out the task of conceptualizing, designing, developing and implementing various programmes of Digantar. It is responsible for overall administration of all projects, total logistic support, accounting and finances, purchase and supply and appointment process of all workers.

Shiksha Vimarsh is a bimonthly magazine in Hindi which intends to provide a forum for academia and practitioners in education to share their experiences in Hindi speaking belt. The magazine also aims to highlight issues that are both contemporary and relevant to educational theories and policies.

Assistant Fellow
Job Profile

The Assistant Fellow is expected to-

Contribute to the process of conceptualizing, planning, developing and delivering/ implementing materials/courses/programmes for improvement of teaching/learning processes by providing the desired inputs.
Developing the ideas into plan of action aiming to bring about a meaningful change in the teaching learning processes.
Work as a part of the team and to extend active participation in the process.
To contribute in the best possible way so as to help the organization in achieving its objectives.


Educational Qualification Master’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent. (Preference will be given to candidates having master degree in language, education, science and mathematics.)
Experience Minimum 03 year experience of working in the field of education or in voluntary agencies related to education or social development. Experience of research and/or teaching in the relevant field/subject will be an added advantage.
Salary Rs. 20000- 30000 (Negotiable)


Associate Fellow

Job Profile


The Associate Fellow is expected to-

Have a rich knowledge and understanding of education in general and elementary education in India in particular.
Be able to analyze the prevailing educational scenario in terms of policies, processes and materials and come up with ideas and proposals responding the prevailing as well as ever emerging needs of the sector.
Be able to concretize the ideas into neat actionable plans and to work towards the successful implementation.
Be proficient to work independently by taking initiatives and leadership roles. Motivate, guide, lead, supervise, and assist other members of the team so as to help them perform accordingly to achieve the organizational objectives.

Educational Qualification Master’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent (Preference will be given to candidates having master degree in language, education, science, and mathematics. M Phil or Ph. D. is a desirable criterion.)
Experience Minimum 05 year’s experience of working in the field of education or in voluntary agencies related to education or social development. Experience of research and/or teaching in the relevant field/subject will be an added advantage.
Salary Rs. 30000- 40000 (Negotiable)




Assistant Editor

Job Profile

The Assistant Editor is expected to perform the following duties-
To plan and do the essential preparations for the forthcoming issues of the magazine.
To gather material (articles, translations, books, reviews, etc) as per the plan for the forthcoming issues of the magazine and to contact the concerned writers accordingly.
Selecting and editing the material received for publication.
To be familiar with and aware of the contemporary discourse in the field of education that is going on around the world and to be able to participate in as well as contribute to that through the magazine.
To ensure quality of material translated from English or other languages and to edit the same.
To prepare the plan for increasing the circulation of the magazine and to extend the best possible support in doing so.
To reply the regular mails received.
To prepare the Annual plan of the magazine and to extend the best possible support to accomplish the same.
Educational Qualification Post-graduation in Humanities/ Social Science/ Education from a recognized institution. Degree/ Diploma in Journalism will be an added advantage.
Experience Minimum 03 year’s experience in editing or related field
Salary Rs. 20000- 30000 (Negotiable)


##Note -Proficiency in both Hindi and English is required for all the three positions.

Project: Aahan – Tuberculosis Treatment Programs for Rural Areas

Aahan is a program that provides world-class care to rural tuberculosis (TB) patients in Bihar. It was started by alumni of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard because the majority of 180,000 new TB cases every year in Bihar do not receive proper treatment leading to a continuing epidemic that drives families into destitution and is creating drug resistant strains of TB.

Aahan works closely with the national TB program (RNTCP) and the Bihar government to find cases, diagnose them and ensure reliable drug delivery. It currently serves villages in the Dalsingh Sarai area in Bihar with a population of about 28,000. It will cover a population of about 1,00,000 by the end of 2011. Aahan is a program of award winning NGOs: Innovators In Health, the Prajnopaya Foundation (www.prajnopaya.org) and the Swasti Seva Samiti, based in the U.S. and India.

Position: Project Manager
Aahan seeks a Project Manager based in Bihar, India who will be responsible for executing the program, scaling it from 30,000 to 100,000 residents, and interfacing with the public health system and the RNTCP. The Manager will report to the Program Directors based in the U.S. and India.

Responsibilities
* Manage a staff of 8 working in Dalsingh Sarai, Bihar
* Oversee case-finding, diagnosis and drug delivery in rural Dalsingh Sarai
* Recruit and train up to 10 new staff and expand into 6 new panchayats
* Arrange TB workshops for physicians and community health workers
* Work with the RNTCP and the state government
* Maintain an electronic medical record system
* File field reports in Microsoft Word

Requirements
You must be fluent in English and Hindi, and in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel); and willing to stay and work in rural areas for extended periods.

Experience
Candidates with the following experience are preferred:
* Managing teams
* Working in public health
* Working in rural areas
* Interacting with the government

Candidates without this experience, but with exceptional achievements and promise will also be considered.

Package
